Flesh & Buns
Don't be fooled by the mildly off-putting name, this 'Rock n Roll' Japanese Izakaya-style joint serves up seriously tasty DIY steamed buns, stuffed with a variety of meats and fish.
The build-your-own menu means you can pick from bun fillings such as Wagyu rump steak, Crispy pork belly (a real winner) and Salmon Teriyaki, each coming with their own sauce, pickled vegetable and lettuce. You then stuff the meat into the buns to create your meal. Desserts are hands-on too; we melted our marshmallow and green tea chocolate Smores over a mini stove brought to our table. Cocktails are twists on classics - the Jasmine Old Fashioned was particularly good. And, of course, there's a long list of sakes to try.
A central long sharing high table is the focus of the dimly lit subterranean restaurant. Booth seating and smaller, more intimate tables line the surrounding walls. Classic Rock and Roll tracks are played as a backdrop to the buzzing atmosphere that exists inside. Materials are simple but elegant - dark wood tables, black stools, industrial pendants. But there are touches of fun; the bathroom walls are papered with colourful (in both sense of the word) Hentai Manga.
